Summer and schoolusually don’t mix too well, but in this instance, it’s an ideal time to take a look at the college football landscape.
This week belongs to the Big Ten, and we have Max Meyer’s favorite under bet in the conference. If Ohio State fans already weren’t happy with Max after yesterday’s Michigan over 10.5 wins pick, he’s making more enemies in Columbus today.
Ohio State Under 10.5 Wins (-115)
Uncertainty at Quarterback
Ohio State had stellar play under center in the past five years with Dwayne Haskins, Justin Fields and C.J. Stroud. Now it’s a true battle between Kyle McCord and Devin Brown, and neither is running away with the starting job. The saying often goes that if you have two quarterbacks, you really have none.
Shaky Offensive Line
The winner of the McCord/Brown battle won’t be playing behind last season’s offensive line. That group allowed a 2.8% sack rate (11th-best in CFB), as Stroud wasn’t pressured too often and got the ball out quickly. Last year’s starting tackles Dawand Jones and Paris Johnson Jr. are both gone, and Ohio State had to bring in a San Diego State transfer after a poor showing from its tackles at the spring game.
Not Many Breaks on the Schedule
The new starting quarterback gets a major early test by having to play at Notre Dame on Sept. 23. The Buckeyes get a bye after that showdown, but then it’s eight straight weeks without any breaks. That includes back-to-back contests hosting Penn State and going to Wisconsin in late October, while the final game is in the Big House as a likely underdog to Michigan.
